A proposal to upgrade TGCE into the Institute of Advanced Studies in Education (IASE), a centrally sponsored scheme of Govt. of India, is under active consideration of the Administration. Necessary scheme is being prepared by the College for onward submission. Once it is upgraded into IASE the activities of the College will enhance and apart from the existing pre-service teacher training programme, the in-service training programmes, orientation, refresher courses, workshops and seminar pertaining to secondary and senior secondary education will be taken up by the College. Research and innovations in education will be the special features of TGCE after upgradation.  

      Provision has been made available in the annual plan to introduce one year M.Ed. degree programme and addition of some more integrated courses on Teacher Education. Steps are being initiated to introduce this programme from the academic year 2005-06. There are also plans to introduce more subjects in the Four Years Integrated Programme.

      The College has a large campus with three Demonstration Schools, a Book Depot, a Central Library, one Senior Secondary School, a Zonal Education Office and a Boys Hostel. It is a large and old campus of Port Blair town. During Lt. Governor’s visit to the campus, he desired to develop this campus into a model educational campus and asked to prepare a master plan to develop the campus in a planned way over a period of time so that these islands will be proud of a Model Educational Campus. Accordingly a separate scheme under sub sector Education has been prepared and provision has been made available to develop this campus into a Model Educational Campus.
